Season’s Greetings

THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES – 1998

We have been having beautiful warm weather hard to realize Christmas is only a month away. I have worked out of doors trying to get the yard ready for winter. My garden produced many tomatoes, peppers, herbs and roses. I am not as spry as I used to be so it takes me longer to get things done. I have to admit I am still trying to clear out clothes, things and get my photo books up to date, but I keep at it.

This past year made two visits to Richmond, Virginia, last Christmas and this past September into October. I always enjoy the Coplans and especially Ralph’s letters which I am slow in answering.

David has been with me quite often this past summer. Now his new appointment is Phoenix, Casa Santa Cruz. He will soon be going to Bangladesh for Christmas and in January to India to give retreats for Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, then back to Bangladesh for Easter, then back to Phoenix. He said I could visit him in Phoenix, but by then it will be hot.

Two weddings this past year, in May Rob Lank, nephew in Davenport, and Clay Steffens in Minneapolis. Paul came for Clay’s wedding and we stopped on the way at Sparta, Wisconsin to see Lester, Hazel and Fay Schlaver. June 1999 Matthew Steffens will be married in South Bend.

Marcia has been busy this past year. She now works part time at St. Mary’s College, which she hopes will become a full time job, does alteration work at a dress shop, and this past month opened her SEW COZY shop, handcrafted gifts, custom embroidery, unique apparel, alterations and such. It is in an old brewery building in Mishawaka. I am really proud of what she has done. Now I am knitting dish clothes which she sells in the shop. I’m afraid I will not be able to keep up with her sales.

Have been to Davenport a few times to visit Helen and family and each time Edward and Birdie came from Champaign so we had a family get together.

Marcia came here for Thanksgiving, but it was a fast trip because of all her jobs. Her kids went East for Thanksgiving, Shane and Michelle stopped at Paul’s in Cambridge, Mass. for the turkey dinner.

I am still hoping and praying that my health keeps me able to cross that bridge into the 21st century.

My wishes to all A BLESSED CHRISTMAS AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
