1964
THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES 400 S. I-Oka Ave., Mount Prospect, Ill. Vol. 1, No. 12 December 25, 1964
1964--the year that was for Betty, C.O., David and Paul:
--When our frequent trips to Jordan, Minn., with enjoyable stopovers at Sparta, ended as David, a member of the Congregation of Holy Cross (C.S.C.), moved to Moreau Seminary and is continuing his studies in languages and philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. Now, our trips--just two hours on the tollway--can include Sunday visits with both sons. Paul is a studious (we hope) Sophomore at N.D.
--When the four of us, missing services of David as navigator, had an enjoyable two weeks touring in the East--at Princeton, N.J., getting sore feet but loving every minute spent at the much-maligned World's Fair, seeing the Statue of Liberty and viewing Niagara Falls from the Canadian side.
--When Marcia reached "Sweet Sixteen" status, wore contact lenses and pestered us for driving lessons.
--When Dad virtually lived between his office at The QUILL in the daytime and at the Village Hall at night, seemingly thriving on a rigorous diet of work for both the Sigma Delta Chi magazine and the Village.
--When the darkest Saturday of all came on Nov. 27 as Southern Cal beat Notre Dame, dimming the lustre of that "We're No. 1" button which Paul so proudly wore. But there were nine other Saturdays when the Irish won over all in the Era of Ara and Paul stepped along with his clarinet in the N.D. band.
--When the crab grass dueled the Merion blue in our lawn, the snow swirled upon the sidewalk and the boys were sorely missed.
--When the area behind St. Raymond's church became Mount Prospect's first formal garden, just across from our house.

1965--the year that is to be--may it bring:
--Re-election and an opportunity to complete unfinished work for the "Village in Step with Tomorrow" as Dad decides to run again for president.
--Careful driving for Marcia, smaller waistlines for Betty and C.O., continued serenity in his chosen work for David, some A's for Paul, and
--Health and prosperity for friends and kin. --A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR ALL--
