THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES

Dec. 25, 1969 - 400 S. I-Oka Ave., Mount Prospect, Ill.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL:

1969 draws to a close as an eventful year in our family, to be climaxed with the marriage on Dec. 27 of the last of our brood, Marcia. She will be Mrs. Mark David Steffens, residing at 1800 W. Farwell Ave., Chicago, a few blocks from where we lived some 25 years ago. Marcia will be graduated in June, 1970, from Mundelein College. Mark is a senior in accounting at Loyola University.

And so C.O. and Betty will soon be the lone occupants of the home which is cluttered with the left-behind growing-up mementos of the past and many happy memories. Yes, the fivesome is dwindling down to a twosome, as is the inevitable family process—Marcia in Rogers Park, David in Europe and Paul in California.

Paul, after nearly a year in VISTA, the domestic Peace Corps, was married last June to Diana, whom he met in Cleveland. They and the four small children by her previous marriage live near Oakland at 2980 Rollingwood Dr., San Pablo, Calif. 94806. Now a salesman, Paul is hopeful of teaching or working with urban problems.

David was ordained a Deacon in the Holy Cross order after receiving his Master's in theology at Notre Dame and left last June for study in Germany and Holland. He is Moreau Seminary's first participant in an exchange program with the Diocesan Seminary in Utrecht and is already preaching in Dutch. Letters are filled with interesting details about travels in Germany, France and the Low Countries. His address is Amersfoortseweg 10, Huis Ter Heide (U.), Nederland.

C.O. has recovered from surgery which confined him at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital for a month last summer. He and Betty hope to use three weeks' vacation next spring in flying from O'Hare to Amsterdam to join David for travel and reunion in Europe.

Betty was recently promoted to assistant cashier at the First National Bank of Mount Prospect. She accompanied C.O. to Bermuda for a wonderful week at the UPI Editors' Conference in October and then to San Diego for the Sigma Delta Chi convention. While in California they had an enjoyable reunion with C.O.'s wedding attendant of nearly 28 years ago, Ross, and Gano Anderson.

Yes, 1969 has been a memorable and busy year and we ring in 1970 with hopes for health, happiness and international peace.
