SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES — DECEMBER, 1985
Greetings
The highlight of this past year for me was my trip to Bangladesh last winter. Our group was great, and I enjoyed meeting all the people in the various Bengali villages and capital city of Dhaka. It was an experience I'll never forget. Time passed so quickly it was hard to realize we were there almost a month. The weather was delightful, a little cool in the morning and evening, only one afternoon and evening of light rain. We attended two ordinations of Holy Cross priests in different villages, each one a beautiful experience. Visited several of Mother Teresa's homes in Dhaka and other cities. Attended Mass with the Sisters and David at the Home of Compassion in Dhaka. The little nuns are beautiful, so dedicated. We have hundreds of pictures which I wish I could show everyone.
So it began as an exciting year. Then in May attended Paul's graduation from law school in Boston - four years of night school finally completed. He was overjoyed! And just recently, he called with the good news that he has passed the Massachusetts Bar! I'm very proud of his accomplishment and determination.
Paul's boys, Ben and "Beep", were here for six weeks during the summer while Dad studied for his bar examination. They spent most of the time with Marcia and family. They were with me a week and I took them to visit my sister Helen and her family in Davenport. We went fishing in the Waupsee river and took a boat trip on the Mississippi river.
David and I have been attending the opera together again this fall - we will see eight before Christmas. I will miss David not coming in after they are over.
My usual jaunts have been to Michigan and Indiana to visit the Steffens family and David.
Several Holy Cross priests and sisters from around the world have been my guests this summer and fall, and I enjoyed having them all.
In early December Helen and I went to San Francisco for a week to visit her daughter Pat and son-in-law Alan.
I missed my annual trip to Richmond to visit the Coplan and Thomas families, but the spring will be a beautiful time to plan a visit to Virginia.
My best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.
Love and Peace,
Betty
