SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES — DECEMBER, 1984

Looking back over the past year, it has been a good one. I am now working only part time, nine to one, Monday through Friday, although I can't say that I have taken advantage of the extra time.

Early in June visited Paul and family for a week. Although the weather was rainy, Paul and I had a very good visit. The boys were in school so Grandma didn't boss them too much, only Paul who was in the midst of decorating and apartment cleaning.

A trip to Davenport in July was a surprise birthday party for my sister Helen. Marcia, Michelle and I drove over for the small happy family reunion.

First week in August Helen and I rode back with Ruth and Ralph Coplan for a visit in Richmond Virginia. Had a lovely weekend in West Virginia at the Thomas "farm". Will miss them all this year at Christmas.

I went to seven operas again this year with David. As busy as he is, he has come in to take me, and I really enjoy them.

I've been to Notre Dame and Michigan a couple of times, always glad to visit the Steffens family. They are growing so fast, hard to keep up with them. Matt started high school this fall. We celebrated an early Christmas on my birthday.

Now as the year 1984 is rapidly coming to a close, I am leaving on a trip to Bangladesh with David. He finally talked me into going. I am excited, but also a little frightened about going halfway around the world. David is elated. Our home base will be Dacca. We will travel by boat, bus, train, rickshaw and on foot to visit different parishes and villages and visit several of the Holy Cross priests I met this summer at Notre Dame. If time permits we plan to go to Calcutta. My place of abode will be with the Holy Cross Sisters. We will spend Christmas in one of the villages and attend two ordinations.

Best Wishes for a Blessed and Healthy Christmas and New Year.

PEACE, Betty
