Extra! Holiday Time Special Edition
Family Highlights During Year Past: The trip to Sunny California...first glimpse of awesome Grand Canyon, logs turned into stone in Petrified Forest, colorful pinnacles in Bryce Canyon, the tide rolling in at the Pacific Ocean, exciting Disneyland, opportunity for Marcia to feed the ground squirrels at Bryce...searing heat of Mohave Desert where it was 120 in the shade and no shade anywhere...the refreshing coolness of Colorado during revisiting of our favorite spot, Estes Park.
David had a trip, too, representing The Chicago American, where he is a copyboy, at the Teen-Age Journalism Conference in Dearborn, Mich., during unveiling of the new Fords. Next January he goes to the University of Illinois at Champaign as a member of the All-State high school band.
The Christmas Story (Luke 2:1-7): ...In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled...And Joseph also went up from Galilee...with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
What We Want for 1959:
Paul: To graduate from 8th grade with flying colors.
Dad: New fire truck and another well for the village before he gets off the board of trustees.
Betty: More smiles from the "brood" in the morning.
Marcia: Give me a horse I can ride, any kind of a horse.
David: A Volkswagen or a Lark. After all, I'm 16 and in need of transportation.
Our Sincere Wishes: Last year we vowed that these family greetings, informal as usual, would be composed far in advance of the Dec. 25th deadline; but there were village board meetings, sessions of the Lions and other distractions for C.O.
From a home filled with the chatter of Marcia, bits of Mozart on David's oboe and ringing of the telephone on village business we send these greetings. We're all healthy and a year older. The boys and Marcia grow taller in amazing fashion, leaving mother and dad behind.
The Lord has been good to us and in the true spirit of Christmas we hope you are blessed, too. It isn't the holly, it isn't the snow. It isn't the tree nor the firelight's glow. It's the warmth that comes to the hearts of men when the Christmas spirit returns again.
