SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES

OUR FAMILY HERALDS THE YULE SEASON

Vol. 1 No. 6 • December 25, 1959

We thought about a formal Christmas card—it would be easier to buy the printed kind than to have dad pound the typewriter and mother crank up the mimeograph but so many of our friends say they like our informal ones. One more year of battling the family budget, taxes and enlarging waistlines.

Family News:

  • David: A senior in high school, still the "music man" and sports reporter for the Dons. A year from now he hopes to be at Notre Dame University aiming at a law career and marching with the "Fifing Irish".

  • Paul: Found a new love—golf and caddying—this past summer. A highlight was a plane ride with his dad to New York when he attended the Lions' International convention.

  • Marcia: Still yearning for a horse but would compromise for a life-size doll.

  • Betty: Her mink stole turned out to be a little black Austin A55 which David drives to school with freshman Paul sitting beside him as navigator.

  • C.O. (Dad): His whopping big independent vote from his neighbors last spring makes him think it’s still worthwhile to raise a sometimes minority voice on the village board.

Tiny Editorial: "The shepherds came with haste." Evidently the Christmas rush started early. But let’s not bind Christmas with tinsel and keep the spirit out or concentrate on gifts and let the star go by.

David, the musical one; Paul, the quiet one; Marcia, the noisy one; Betty, the busy one; C.O., the bulging one; all send greetings for A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
