THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES

400 S. I-Oka Ave.  Mount Prospect, Ill.  December 25, 1978

Looking out of our windows in snowy Illinois where shoveling is a chore in senior years we send our Christmas and New Year greetings to friends and kin near and far, and to our colleagues best wishes for health and prosperity.

To our grandchildren—Matthew, Clay and Shane Steffens; Benjamin, Julian and Lisa Schlaver—there’s a special Christmas wish of happiness and good health at Yuletide.

We are happy that son-in-law Mark is to begin a new position with Clark Equipment Co. at Buchanan, Mich. and we will continue to see Marcia, Mark and their three lively sons on many occasions. They will leave their lovely home at Webster Groves, Mo. for a new location not far from Notre Dame.

May the New Year also find a new turn of the wheel of fortune for Paul, Diana and family in or near Boston after their long trip from Richmond, Calif.

For son, Rev. David, we hope he can find time in his busy schedule in residence at Moreau Seminary on the Notre Dame campus to complete his doctoral dissertation for Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He will be home for a few days at Christmastime as will Marcia and family.

In 1978: Another year of active days for Betty in the trust department of the First National Bank of Mount Prospect and C.O., re-hired as executive vice president of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce. We approach the new year appreciative of reasonable good health and non-retirement.

We’ll remember 1978 as the year when good friends gave a dinner dance testimonial for C.O. (How sweet are the flowers when you are around to savor them!) Later after that delightful evening attended by nearly 250 we had a cruise in the Caribbean on the Sun Princess after flying to San Juan…great food morning, noon and night…varied entertainment aboard and ashore…our first steps upon South American soil at Caracas, Venezuela…shopping at Port Thomas and Cuarco…new friends met.

Last fall we had an enjoyable visit with the Coplans as well as those splendid hosts, “Bert” and Ralph Thomas, in Richmond, Va., enjoying that famed southern hospitality. The fall color in West Virginia was spectacular as we drove on westward to Webster Groves, Mo. to end a two weeks’ vacation. C.O. had a reunion with Ed Arnold.

May remembrance of the little Babe in the Bethlehem stable fill the hearts and minds of all with His truth and may Peace supplant violence in all nations.
