THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES — DECEMBER, 1980
400 So. I-Oka Ave., Mount Prospect, IL. 60056
1980 has been a long lonely year since Clarence passed away. After thirty-eight years of marriage, being one again is different. I have been very fortunate in having friends, co-workers and relatives help me over the tough moments.
A one week vacation in March was spent with our new granddaughter, Michelle Lynn, born March 13. A few weekend trips this past year were spent in Dowagiac, Michigan with Mark, Marcia, Matthew, Clay, Shane and Michelle. I also spent Thanksgiving with them and Mark's family.
David left for Dacca, Bangladesh, March 31st. I was so thankful he had been with me since December 1979. I look forward to receiving his letters, getting worried when they are far between, then feeling guilty when I realize how busy he is with all of his various duties, especially his "Clinic" to help the doctor with the camp children and anyone else who wanders in for medical treatment and advice. He has lost 30 pounds, traveled over 1,500 miles on his Honda. He will have many experiences to talk about. I have had his pictures developed, also slides, so have been in touch with them through them.
Paul, Lisa, Benjamin and Julian came during the summer for their vacation. Will see them at Christmas when they drive down from Boston to Richmond where I plan to spend the holidays with my sister Ruth and family, taking advantage of "good old Southern hospitality" once again.
My sister Helen lost her husband Jack in May, very suddenly, which was a shock to all of us. Later in the year Helen and Mary, her youngest daughter, and I took a trip to Richmond, visiting Ruth and family. Ruth was our tour guide to Washington, D.C. and Williamsburg, also the Williamsburg pottery. We came home loaded with purchases, so they decided the next time we go there we are going to take Helen's truck.
My wish for everyone A MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
