THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES — DECEMBER, 1981
400 South I-Oka Ave., Mount Prospect, Il. 60056
1981 is rapidly coming to a close, time to reminiscence on the past year and think of what the future may have in store. It has been a busy year, lonely at times. My health has been good and Dr. Tarun continues to advise me to stay on the job.
Father David returned from Bangladesh this spring to take over a new assignment at Notre Dame as Director of Campus Ministry. I am sure he left Bangladesh with sadness, but glad to be back at Notre Dame. I was happy to have him close to home once again. His frequent visits have been a joy to me.
Paul, Lisa, Benjamin and Julian Michael came in August for their vacation, so we made a circle tour to Davenport, Iowa, Sparta, Wisconsin, and Dowagiac, Michigan to visit as many relatives as we could in the two weeks time. Julian, 5, started a new school this year so decided he now wants to be called Michael. Paul keeps busy with all his daily chores and a new position with the City of Cambridge, Mass. as Assistant Co-Ordinator of the Fuel Assistance Program. Says he does publicity, writes articles, sort of a 'chip off the old block'. He is attending law school at night so really keeps busy.
Marcia, Mark, Matthew, Clay, Shane and Michelle are also busy with all their school and church activities in Dowagiac, Michigan. Would love to see them more often, but realize even 140 miles is a distance to travel. Marcia had a big garden this past summer and has generously shared some of the produce with me. She is also attending a class in a college in Dowagiac besides all her other projects.
My sister Helen and I had a great vacation in October, a bus trip thru Ireland. We really enjoyed every minute. While there we saw her daughter Pat who had been there for a few months.
David and I are flying out of O'Hare the 22nd for Richmond, Virginia to spend the holidays with the Coplan and Thomas families. My nephew Tom Coplan will be married to Betsey Adams the 28th and David will perform the ceremony. We are looking forward to sharing this happy occasion.
