THE SCHLAVER CHRISTMAS CHIMES — DECEMBER, 1982
400 South I-Oka Avenue, Mount Prospect, Ill. 60056
1982 has been a fast moving, but uneventful year in my life. A few trips to Dowagiac, Michigan to the Steffens home was enjoyed each time. I miss the three lively boys, Matthew, Clay and Shane, also dear little Michelle. They are all growing so fast, only wish they lived nearer.
A trip to Richmond, Virginia in July to my sister Ruth was highlighted when Paul and family, Lisa, Ben and Michael (formerly Julian) drove down there to visit. Paul said it was closer to Richmond from Boston than to Mount Prospect. Paul is in his second year of night law school and finds there are not enough hours in the day for all his chores, job and studies.
David comes home from Notre Dame as often as he can, for which I am grateful. He left on November 17 for Bangladesh to give retreats to the Holy Cross people, Missionaries of Charity Sisters and to renew acquaintances. He will be there until January 16. He left O'Hare loaded down with medical supplies, clothing, etc. for the poor. I finally received his welcome letter advising he had arrived O.K. and no problems with the customs with the box and four large suitcases. He is now busy with the retreats.
I took a few days Thanksgiving week to drive to Davenport, Iowa to be with Helen. Thanksgiving day was spent with the Lanks; Sue Lank is Helen's oldest daughter. She and Bob have three lively boys, Robbie, Peter and Andy, reminding me of Marcia's three boys.
Have been working every day and hope to continue, God willing and health permitting.
Marcia and family will arrive for Christmas dinner with me. Then on Sunday I will leave for Richmond once again for the last week of my vacation and wind up 1982.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
