MERRY CHRISTMAS

One more year of fighting the family budget, inflation and enlarging waist lines. But we hope to continue with serenity in non-retirement and in keeping with the philosophy of wearing out rather than rusting out.

So, C.O. continues in executive directorship of the Mt. Prospect Chamber of Commerce, happy in his office at the Village Hall, 100 South Emerson. Betty continues to work in the Trust Department of the First National Bank of Mount Prospect at Randhurst.

**Grandsons Five—**We now have five grandsons following the birth on December 4 of a son to Paul and Diana in the rural region of Cottage Grove, Oregon. This new brother to grandson Benjamin wasn’t named at time of this writing. Grandson No. 4, Shane, was born to Marcia and Mark Steffens of Park Ridge August 9. We’ll miss this ever-smiling, docile youngster along with his brothers Matthew and Clay when they move in January to a new home at Webster Groves, Missouri. Mark is already commuting to his new work as an assistant controller for St. Louis-based Consolidated Aluminum Corp.

**Christmas 1976—**Son Rev. David CSC will be with us over Christmas for a brief break from work on his doctoral thesis at the University of Michigan and in the archives at the University of Notre Dame. Thus, our immediate family circle dwindles down to C.O., Betty and her mother Louise, now 85, who has made her home with us for a number of years.

**In 1976—**A short stay in Knoxville, Tenn. with the Coplans was a welcome interlude, together with a drive to the Smokies and the Atomic Research Museum at Oak Ridge. Another break in routine was coupled with C.O.’s second-year management studies for the C. of C. at Boulder, Colo., an opportunity to visit Paul and Diana and family before they left for Oregon. Getting out of Colorado ahead of the Thompson Canyon flood we headed north through Wyoming and South Dakota (an all-night drive with no room at the motels) and on to Sparta, Wis. with a short visit. A Cronau family reunion at the home of Jack and Helen Ray in Davenport, Iowa, and the 40th wedding anniversary of Gene and Vivian Perkins in Neponset were pleasant times. Meanwhile, C.O. found recreation playing golf in the Wednesday night league and a bit of gardening while Betty cared for her many plants inside and out.

**In 1977—**We’ll observe our 35th wedding anniversary Jan. 20.
Time marches on.

May the wonderful spirit of Christmas remain with you throughout the New Year.

Betty & C.O. Schlaver
